MMA By EA Sports Review: Fighting Finally Goes Real!!

October 26, 2010

Fighting isn’t usually the genre I cherish while picking up some new games but on the other side I fancy punching people and stuff, this is what lures me into buying fighting games, the punches, the blood, the atmosphere. MMA by EA Sports is undoubtedly one of the most authentic fighting games I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing on the iPhone or iPod Touch.

The controls of the game doesn’t come easy, players will need to perfect controls based on the style of fighter they choose. The movement of the player is operated through tilt controls, snapping forward or back to evade to the sides and in stand-up players can tap the quarter-circles to execute immediate strikes or snarfs for heavier blows. Execution of amazing grapple moves demands double-swipes and from several positions you can either swipe outwards to call off a grapple or use some other combinings to pull off submission move with perfection.

We haven’t seen a lot of games with real usage of stamina system but in this one, it plays a huge role in outperforming your opponent and is dropped based on your peformance in a particular match. There’s a career mode for people who want to cherish this game in the long-run. It allows you to customize your own player, the options provided are very limited but the graphics are neat and amazing, it wouldn’t be that hard to recognise your favorite star.

Overall, MMA by EA Sports lives upto it’s potential with neat graphics, smooth gameplay and the variety of fighting styles in the game which increases the amount of new and unique moves and animations. This is without a doubt, the best non-fantasy fighting game I’ve ever laid my hands on (obviously on the iPhone and iPod Touch). This would surely give fans of the fighting genre some real and breathtaking action.
